Possible disadvantage (to meeting in person) Possible advantage (over meeting in person)
• Reduced person-to-person interaction and presence • Greater familiarity with the setting (the place you connect to the internet from)

I aim to keep in mind the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online’s (ACTO’s) Code of Ethics for working online.

If you are in the US

While a counsellor working in the US is required to be certified by the state in which they work (and I am not certified by any US state) there is not usually the same requirement for a psychotherapist. As a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I can use the title ‘Registered Counsellor’ or ‘Registered Psychotherapist’.
